In my project «Junk shop» I appeal to phenomena of circulation of objects, of collecting and exchanging beautiful and interesting items. The stories behind them are not linked to some specific places, but rather pulled out of their original context. Using the medium of painting, I tend to create a distance between the image and the viewer. As in my previous series, I avoid drawing detailed faces, so the viewer won’t have a particular emotion to hold on to. I confront the viewer with the image and at the same time, I introduce something strange and magical into environments and interrelations of objects and people. I tend to convey the familiar experience of interacting with traditional painting that most of us enjoy as a way of pushing the viewer to an understanding of their role of the consumer of aesthetics. At the same time, I am interested in interpretations that might emerge from interacting with seemingly random sets of objects. I wonder how our perception is refracted while seeing these compilations of strange but familiar images.
